We all know that natural makeup and organic skincare is an essential part to our overall well being. Our beauty isn’t only skin deep because so much of how we look is connected with our diet. So it’s essential that we do what we can to eat foods that don’t contain anything harmful. Unless you are cooking your meals yourself, you don’t really know what is in your food. Is it really natural? If makeup products that contain harmful toxins can damage your skin, food containing toxins will harm your inside and cause other ill effects.
In an effort to use ‘natural’ products we might be surprised or even shocked as to what is going in our food. With makeup products that aren’t ‘natural makeup’ or ‘organic makeup’ companies can be very deceitful as to how they label their products. The same is true of ’ready-made’ meals or pre-cooked food. Companies are allowed to use misleading names for food additives or they can even leave out mentioning them altogether. They just use the term ‘natural flavours’. Recently in the US many will have heard about the ‘pink slime’ scandal. But did you know that beetles and beaver anal glands could be in your smoothies?
This is part 2 part of our blog will shows why we need to be just as careful with our food choice as we are in purchasing natural makeup or organic makeup. Here are some of the unpleasant ingredients that could be lurking in your food.
- Lanolin – Found in sheep’s wool this natural oil is usually used in shampoos, lotions, sunscreen, and other cosmetics to leave your skin and hair silky and smooth. So that isn’t too bad because it a natural ingredient in it’s much better than mineral oil. But this is also used in the production of chewing gum to soften it.
- Sawdust – In order to prevent products like shredded cheese clumping this is used for the “cellulose” in it. So like your cheese with a woody taste? Now you know why! This is also used meat products, ice cream, and more. At least it’s one way to increase your daily intake of fiber.
- Sodium bisulfite – Now we’re coming on to the not so natural products. This is a chemical. It is used as a toilet bowl cleaner. What you don’t know, and it will never be on any ingredient list is that it is also used to bleach potato chips so that they don’t discolour and also extend their shelf life.
